I have one struggle that i'm looking for advice or pointers on: When Logan is misbehaving we tend to say things like "do you want to go sit in the chair?" - would you consider this a threat? Is there a better way of wording it? I don't want to have my child(ren) living in 'fear' of the chair, but in what way do you remind them of the consequences of their actions?
I just don't like feeling like time out is a threat. Time out is a consequence of bad behaviour.
Tips? Suggestions? Approaches?
Welcome!
Welcome to my blog. This is a place where I will voice MY thoughts and MY ideas on life and life events. I faithfully write in a journal but sometimes I feel the need to publically display, so here it is!

"NO"
So Logan was a little slow on the draw (from what i've been told) but he mastered the word 'no' within the last 2-3 days. He hadn't EVER used it before, like truly, he just didn't say no to anything. Now that it's a new word he says no to everything even if he really means yes. Most of the time it's cute ;).
Anyways, to me it makes sense that he learns it right now because we're also starting to enforce 'time outs' which we never really did before. We are using the Supernanny time out rules which have been fairly effective actually! I'll share that here:
1. Go down to their level and speak to them about what they are doing incorrect (use eye contact)
2. GIve them ONE warning that if they do it again they will be sent to the naughty chair (or whatever you use)
3. If the offense is repeated take them to the chair.
4. Sit them down and explain to them why they are there. Do not over talk to them at this point, explain the situation ONLY then walk away.
5. Length of time out is 1 minute per number of their age. So i've rounded Logan up to 2 mins since he's so close. A timer and a visual aid for the child to watch is useful.
6. At the end of time out the child must apologize (in Logan's case he can't say that word yet). Give your child a hug and kiss and express your love to them.
It's fairly effective but you have to be consistent!

Beautiful people
Sometimes I wish I was one of those 'beautiful people'. Don't get me wrong, it has taken me years and years but I have come to embrace my beauty and don't think I am 'ugly' or whatever word you'd prefer to use, in fact I don't find any women (or men I suppose lol) to be - we are all unique and have the ability to portray a certain beauty. (However I don't want to lie with that last comment - there are people I consider to be ugly and that is usually based on their actions. What I mean is that people who are 'bad' people (usually in how they treat others but not limited to) are not beautiful in my eyes. Often drugs and alcohol can strip you of your beauty too.
However! There are people in my life who are just blessed with 'that face'! Take my friend Crystal for example - I have always found her incredibly gorgeous with awesome and lovely features. From the moment I met her I always wished I had her face! Then I have a new cousin-in-law named Lisa and she just has that knock-out beauty that so many of us crave to have for ourselves lol.
It's ungrateful and vain I know that I wish upon myself a different face sometimes - but I am happy with who I am, it's just occasionally I wonder what it'd be like :)

Sleep Therapist
Hello all! So I have hired a sleep therapist to help me with Logan. It's just beyond my scope of thinking on how to change his habits and a change is needed as things in my life have changed and I really just need some consistant sleep.
This therapist was referred to me from someone I met in play group who had great success with her young child. As I visited with the therapist on the phone I really liked her and enjoyed our conversation, so I'm happy with my choice. Her name is Dawn, and she does everything via phone (she's based out of BC). So she gave me the assignment to track more or less everything in our day for three 24 hour periods - everything from wake up times (day and night) to what he ate for each meal, what activities we do in a day, etc. After that I will email it to her (with pictures of his bedroom/sleeping area) and she will do her assessment(s) and then we'll chat about it and she'll give me a sleep plan. Over the next three weeks after that we will talk if not every day, close to every day about Logan's progress, or in some cases his lack of progress and she'll tweak accordingly.
Anyways, i'm pretty excited about it - I will absolutely admit that I have my hopes waaaay up and despite the fact I know I shouldn't, I do. We're scheduled for our phone visit on Feb 2nd which seems SO far away lol..

Happy New Years!
Well it's now 2011! I can't believe it. My son will be 2 in 5 months.. TWO. Where does the time go?
We had a wonderful New Years! Michael and I went and bought our new 29 gallon fish tank yesterday, so last night he was setting it up with Logan. We brought the new year in with loaded nachos (home made) for supper (yup we wanted to bring the new year in style) and diet pop! lol it was great. Logan decided he didn't want to go bed, and frankly I wasn't about to force him - he wasn't grumpy, he wasn't clingy, he just wanted to be up and since I was up anyways I just let him. He went to bed at midnight after the ball dropped, just as Michael and I. The only disappointing thing is that Michael and I were going to play some games but we couldn't with him around.. so we watched Avatar - the extended edition Michael got for Christmas.
Otherwise, the other news I have is our vehicle situation. We sold our dodge dakota which I was sad about because I love that truck BUT we sold it for an amount we would never be able to get out of it, and since Michael barely drives the truck except to and from work 5 mins each way it made logical sense to sell it. The plan was Michael was going to commute back and forth in a little junker truck he picked up for $500, but the truck barely made it home and frankly it had left such a sour taste in our mouths that we needed to get rid of it or it would just cause emotional problems and stress on Michael (and me). So we sold it for $800! lol ya.. after gas and repairs we made $150 on it - not bad right? Anyways, now Michael has NO way to get to work LOL so he's frantically trying to find a used vehicle - he's looking for a little car actually. He needs something that is reliable enough that he can drive with Logan in it (the truck was definetly not and we need a 2nd vehicle that can make trips to and from Calgary if necessary and not be worried that it won't start, or break down). He has been on kijiji looking for something for $3000 or less, and today he and my brother are at the auction checking things out as well. I'm encouraging him to take his time and not rush into things as that has always been our problem in the vehicle department, but he is a little stressed because come Monday if he doesn't have something I'll have to drive him to work which would really suck but frankly it's doable.
And of course Christmas happened in there too. We had a great Christmas! Logan really enjoyed it. He was really funny.. Christmas morning he only opened about half his gifts. He didn't want to open the others because he was having too much fun with his already opened stuff. So even to this day we have unwrapped presents - we just put them in the spare room for now and we'll just bring things out over the next coming months which will likely be more fun for him!
I got spoiled per usual. Michael parents, inlaws and husband did great in the gift department. I am ever grateful for all the wonderful people in my life and their charity and love for me :) Our trip to my inlaws also was wonderful. Logan actually chose to sleep with them 2 nights we were there and that worked amazing for me LOL because I got 2 good nights of sleep.
Anyways, that's our New Year thus far! I wish everyone a wonderful year ahead full of happiness and peace :)

Bowen treatment day
Hello all! It's been a while since I last blogged and so much has happened. I would like to first start with telling you all about the Bowen work I've been doing. I took the opportunity to go back to the South of Calgary to treat various friends and family - I did 7 treatments that day! (Michael was off all week this week, so I left him and Logan home and went to do some practicing). It was so wonderful! I had some great response from people. I also worked on people who didn't give me much of a response at all, but I hope they enjoyed what they recieved. Everyone had different 'problems' and that was interesting because alot of different problemts need the same procedures performed. But of course there was alot of variety of things to do as well. I particulary enjoyed seeing in myself an improvement in my actual technique. I feel much more confident and much more relaxed. I worked on men and women and none of it was awkward for me.
I have to say that the hardest part of it all was charging my fee! The people that I worked on specifically are close friends and/or family and I would much rather just work on them because I love them as opposed to recieving payment, but the whole point of my charging was to cover the cost of me travelling to the south (okay, and I did end up with a few dollars extra in my pocket)... we aren't in a financial situation for me to just drive back and forth that far of a distance (even if it is just 100km one way) just because 'I want to'. -sigh- but my mom has been reminding me that I have to start somewhere, and I agree, but that doesn't make it any easier! lol
Anyways, I have some really great people that I worked on coming out to see me next week, and that right there reassures in myself that the Bowen is successful! I would definetly do another trip to the South if I had at least 5 people to work on, so should anyone want treatments please don't hesitate to ask and we'll see what we can work out.
Should anyone wonder what my rates are, I am presently charging $10 for a treatment until my training is complete and I'm certified.
But all in all, I really enjoyed what I did that day and I am SO glad my mom introduced me to Bowen because I really do believe in it, mostly because most everyone i've worked on has had positive results!
