So...I was going to post this on facebook, but I decided my blog was a better place for it.
So I am kind of a hippy! Why? Let me tell you:
1. I plan to homeschool my kids. Yup, I plan to do that and if ANYONE tells me that my kids will not be educated as well as a public school child, then they are ignorant and stupid themselves. (There may be some heat behind my comment but I am so IRRITATED by someone who recently attacked me for no good reason because I'm choosing to homeschool.
2. Now that I have experienced midwives and homebirths, all of my children (whether that be 1 or 2 more) will be birthed at home (should things allow for it of course)
3. I am into natural healing and bowen and blood reading. Yup, I like holistic health. I am almost a holistic nutritionist (hopefully diploma in hand by end of February!). For the record, I am EDUCATED in the field, so do not try and act as though you are smarter than me and know more about me. I am in it for learning, and if you are able to teach me something, great! If you are just trying to be smarter than me because you think you are 'above me' then bugger off :) (again, there's some heat there, a completely unrelated situation - it's just been a luck week for me haha)
4. I am a vegetarian. I love everything about it! I love the challenge it gives me trying to 'master' it. I am learning SO much with this experiment and I wouldn't change that for anything. Recently we have started going more whole foods in our home. I rarely buy in the middle section of the grocery store. I don't buy my kids fruit snacks. The most processed food they get are yogurt tubes (cuz I freeze them and they're frozen yogurts lol). I don't even buy canned beans anymore, I soak them. Things like that and I feel great! I am overweight still, but that's just part of my challenge I am working through.
5. I am anti-technology. We don't play video games or watch more than 90 minutes of TV a day and we don't own a tablet or ipad, etc. And when we do - it will be strictly for work/school. I will eventually let my kids experience those things because it's part of the world (i'm not stupid), but children do not need to know how to operate some of these things before their 5th birthdays. It's the 'hippy' in me. I don't stop my kids from sitting on grandpa's lap and playing a game with him, minimal exposure isn't what i'm talking about here. I see and have seen too many people consumed with technology, my kids (and me and michael) will know how to play and use our imaginations.
I say all of this because it's what I believe. I am not saying it's the perfect way or the right way, but it it what works in our family and what we will do. Do what you believe is best. I will do my best not to judge you, if you promise to do me the same courtesy.
Welcome!
Welcome to my blog. This is a place where I will voice MY thoughts and MY ideas on life and life events. I faithfully write in a journal but sometimes I feel the need to publically display, so here it is!

Halloween 2013
This Halloween I had Carter a Fred Flintstone costume made and I made (with my neighbor) a Wilma costume for me...and Carter wouldn't even put it in AT ALL! I was so sad (and not confident enough in myself to wear my costume just on my own)...there's always next year right? ;_;
Anyways, the -only- thing Carter would wear was a fireman costume that we had (in fact Logan has worn it the last 2 years for Halloween). Carter hates dressing up. The firefighter was okay becuase it's frankly just a jacket, and for some reason he likes the hat. lol. Logan was a ninja turtle. (we are going through a bit of an obsessive Ninja Turtle phase).
Bonus, after halloween I scored on some serious clearance costumes! I bought SEVEN costumes for 5 bucks a piece (all superheros). My Logan just looooves dressing up, so he's often running around as some hero of some sort. :)

I refused to pay 60 bucks for a turtle costume, so we made the mask and belt, and bought the shell for 20 :)...accidently caught this picture!
and here's my fireman :)

Vegetarian
I have been a vegetarian for three weeks now. It has been surprisingly easy! I have not missed meat in the slightest. The hardest part has mostly just been eating at other people's houses - eating at home and eating out at restaurants is easy :) ...it just requires a bit of preplanning is all (which being mostly gluten free, it's already a habit of mine to preplan when going places)
Anyways, why vegetarian? A few reasons:
1. My course has changed me. I have read so many books and philosophies, and proven studies that plant based diets are your most healthiest option possible. (Read "Healthy at 100"). I wanted to see if I felt any different after going plant based.
2. Doing this nutritionist course, I wanted to try vegetarianism so that when people who are vegetarian or want to be vegetarian come to me, I can direct them accordinly - because I have tried it myself.
3. I heard some theories that there's a ying and yang to everything, and meat and sugars are (in many books) a ying and yang to each other. So if you take out meat, technically your sugar cravings should diminish. I wanted to try this. So far this has proven to be incorrect for me. (however, halloween is a terrible time to try the theory lol). I noticed a distinct decrease in cravings the first week, but then my usual cravings came back the 2nd and 3rd week (and last week was halloween). Will see! Still making notes. :)
So teh course (Holistic Nutritionist) is coming close to an end for me. I have finished all the bookwork, and I am currently working on my case studies. I am almost done 4 (of 11), goal is to be done by Christmas. The case studies take longer because I can't do them when my kids are around - I need to be able to sit down and -focus- on them uninteruppted.
I am LOVING this course tho! I look so forward to the years of actually learning and remembering the course material i've gone over. As I said before, it has changed me. I look at labels and I am disgusted. I read a whole line of bread's labels and the THIRD ingredient was benzyl peroxide (might be spelling that right). that was the bread's shelf preservative. Isn't that gross? You bread eaters are potentially consuming peroxide! (not all bread uses that particular preservative), it was just one of those 'ah ha' moments about labels.
The things that have changed already:
1. I'm reading labels more
2. I buy very little canned goods - only tomato sauce/stewed tomatoes - no more soups, no more canned beans - I soak my own beans, I make everything from scratch.
3. I don't buy prepackaged kids snacks. The only bagged things I buy is nacho chips and rice cakes and nuts (pistachios, etc)
4. Going vegetarian and whole, clean foods, my grocery bill has cut IN HALF. Literally. I used to spend 150-200 per week on food. Now I spend 50-100 per week.
5. I do not buy organic vegetables/fruits (except for carrots - I think they truly do taste better organic), but I DO buy organic meat. (did you know that ham has wheat in it? I started to buy michael gf ham - who knew!) Meat is surprisingly filled with stuff.
6. I have started phasing out plastic tupperware and we are going more glass.
I think that's all :) It's been a fabulous journey! I don't feel -different- going off meat yet, but that just makes me that much more confident that it's not a necessity to life. (And I do NOT do tofu, for the record).
Oh, and I do still cook meat for my family, but they are also getting more vegetarian meals as well. Logan is already a self proclaimed vegetarian and has been for a year or two (he eats meatballs and -sometimes- a hamburger)...and not by request, only if I serve it to him.
My goal was to go 1 month. I think I will continue it longer though :)

Baby #3
This is not an announcement. :) This is more of a "here's what's happening". I figured I'd be pregnant by now to be honest, but this time around isn't happening -as quickly- as every other pregnancy I've experienced. Whether a viable pregnancy or a miscarriage, I have -always- been pregnant in 1-2 months upon trying (6 times). This is coming on month 5 of trying and my last period I actually felt sad when it came.
So I've decided to focus more on the 10lbs I gained this summer (ridding of it), and starting tomorrow we will be renewing our Spray Lakes membership so I can start boxing/zumba/belly dancing/etc and maybe get into some better shape :)
I'm not freaking out about not being pregnant (just to clarify), but just so you know it's not something thats happened yet for us.

Big boy bed part 2
As you may (or may not have read), Carter was tranferred faily successfully to his toddler bed. That lasted 3 nights LOL. The next 3-5 nights were a huge struggle. We ended up having to put him to sleep on our bed and then transfer him. This was -not- something I wanted to continue...I didn't want another boy in our bed! He just didn't want to be in his room for whatever the reason.
So what do we do??
I decided that we should just put him into the bottom bunk (a double bed) in Logan's room. This was to be the plan eventually because we only have three rooms upstairs, and Carters room is also the 'baby room' - where baby #3 will eventually go when he/she joins our family.
It has been a HUUUGE success in more ways then one! He is going to sleep easily, without upset, and so is Logan. AND - they're BOTH sleeping all night long in their room! Logan hasn't crawled into bed with us for 4 nights now - that is truly a first for him! I almost miss him...well, I miss him -needing- us to sleep with him. That may sound weird, but he has been in our bed with us, or one of us with him in his bed his ENTIRE life (and he's almost 4 1/2) so I think it's a normal feeling right? Not enough to ask him to come back of course lol.
Anyways, we are beyond estatic for the progress they've both made. And look forward to getting some sleep filled nights the next little while! :)

Carter in a toddler bed
Three weeks (well 4 now I suppose) Carter started acting scared of his crib. He's always been an amazing sleeper, so when this started to happen I was a bit concerned. About a week after, one night he woke up TERRIFIED. Like I went in and he was so scared he gripped me so tightly I wasn't sure what to think. After process of elination: "was it a doggie" no. "was it a kitty cat" no. "was it a ghost" no. "was it a bug" yes! ...at least that's what he told me. So I pulled his bed apart (secretly hoping I would NOT find anything) and I didn't. I had no choice but to put him back to bed. He cried and cried but his room was safe and I didn't know what to do! Anyways..15 mins later he was asleep.
Fast forward 2 weeks: Similar episode. Except I rocked him back to sleep (which I haven't done with him since he was like 6 months old). Next morning: GOLF BALL sized spider bite on his wrist! Oh my gosh!! At first glance I thought his wrist was broken! After a day of bendryl (benelyn?) whichever one, it went down in size to a "normal sized" bad spider bite. I have to tell you I felt like the worlds worst mommy but who could have known!
Needless to say he wouldn't even consider going back in his crib (and needless to say I sprayed the crap out of his bedroom LOL). So...now what right? Carter can't sleep with me, because Logan is already in my bed the last half of every night! Not enough room lol.
Then I got to thinking: 10 days prior I had purchased an amazing bedroom set for 'the baby room'...lol (I call it that because whenever #3 joins our family, that room is always to be the baby room)...it was a beautiful warddrobe with shelving up the one side and a gorgeous change table with shelving and drawers (more like a dresser). It also came with a toddler bed/crib, which I had in the garage waiting to hopefully sell. <Side story: It technically matches the bedroom set, but the crib we bought is OUR crib. Sentimental value sort of a deal lol, so I was planning to sell the matching one and keeping ours>. Anyways, I thought "gee, why don't we throw the toddler bed up here and see if he'll consider sleeping in that" what other choice did I have right?
We hauled it up and tucked it in the bedroom. First night I had to sit in the rocking chair while he fell asleep, but he has slept and napped every night/day in it since! (5 days now). I am in shock! I still have the crib set up for 'leverage' LOL "Carter...do you need to sleep in the crib??" if he's being naughty :D It's worked amazingly.
I have said before that I have been terrified about how to switch Carter from crib to bed because i've never done it before. Logan was/is a co-sleeper, so this was a first for me!
Kind of fun to have a "first" with my second :) (tho, who am I kidding, Carter is all sorts of firsts with the personality he has!)

bootcamp and whatnot
So this week I started bootcamp and I love her style and how hard she pushes, but she pushed -too- hard for a first time! It's been 4 days and I can almost walk down the stairs and up with no pain. It's a M/F bootcamp and I can take my kids, which is why I chose to sign up :) I'm excited to maybe get into some shape again. Still struggling (from past posts) so wish me luck!
Other news: not a whole lot. Been babysitting alot, and been trying to brainstorm some ways to increase my cliental regarding Bowen.
School: I have been getting marks in the 90s on all my exams (3 submitted/returned), and I just submitted my first case study which we had to do on ourselves. This case study isn't for marks, essentially I think it's something for them to brutalize for us so we know what we're doing on future ones (for marks). I look forward to the positve AND negative feedback. It was a hard one to write (yet I really enjoyed it at the same time), because we only have the first 1/4 of our class material/information, so it wasn't very well rounded per say. I'm at a bit of a standstill...we are only operating with one credit card right now and it somehow went MIA so we had to order a new one so my next round of books are on hold until we get the card number (the mia card expired since we used it last lol what are the odds)...anyways, I need to get the material ordered really soon because the school is closed for the summer.
Otherwise, not a whole lot to report. Been gardening/yard working a lot. Enjoying it too (never thought i'd see the day). I planted peas, potatoes, onion, carrots, green beans....and something else, but I can't remember what it is LOL but it's coming up!

pregnancy fail
May 9: May 1st I determined I was 4 weeks pregnant. My due date Jan 8 which made me nervous so close to christmas and new years - and my boys birthdays fall on the 25 and the 2nd as it is lol. It look me about 4-5 days to get excited about the prospect of a new years baby :-D
On my 5 week mark (yesterday may 8) i started spotting in the morning which got more and more period like as the day went on, and by evening i was bleeding heavily and by evening I was starting to feel pain. Im an experienced miscarriager and this was different this time. My abdomin was in pain! Not cramps per say but terribly achy pain. I loaded up on tylenol and forced myself to sleep (fully prepared to rush to ER if the pain turned stabbing because that was what happened with my tubal - I only have one tube left, i'm not willing to mess around with it). Also, last half of yesterday i really felt emotional - it was like my body knew what i was losing on an emotional level and was mourning despite my actually knowing on a medical front yet. After a good cry when I had time to be alone I felt alot better...not pain wise tho, lol just emotionally.
Anyways, I have an ultrasound booked next wednesday to see either if this baby made it - as I have had quite a history as far as pregnancies have gone...but i dont feel as tho this pregnancy will make it. In one breath im relieved because we werent ready to start for another few months, however at the same time in that short week I had reset my thinking and was ready for our next addition (I adapt to things fairly quickly).
Next week will tell now the official fate of baby - i wont post this until after the u/s.
May 15: I already knew the fate, especially after the blood reader on Tuesday because my uterus did not show up on the dry blood analysis, but anyways, definite miscarriage. Now i'm supposed to get some blood tests done to see if I have hormone changes which is the only way to determine a tubal - mostly precautionary measures. They want a follow up ultrasound too which i'm surprised - they didn't say there was any concerns so i'm not sure why a followup? She said there was some fluid still but I don't know what that means.
Whatever the case, i'm officially not pregnant :)

Mary Kay has saved the day
So, I have always had acne. My whole life (upon hitting teenagehood). Over the years various products have worked really well. My first good experience was Arbonne - their acne line was nice on my face and cleared generally most of my acne. Eventually tho they changed their forumla and the new formula no longer worked. Back to drug store brands at that point - which was fine because that was when I started to delve into pregnanies, and pregnancy is really wonderful on my skin :)
Anyways, I agreed to try a line my friend sells called Nucerity. It's a single product line and extremely expensive ($80 every 4-6 weeks). I didn't have immediate results - in fact the results I had were my skin was getting oily (I have never had oily skin) and all my pimples were turning into those under the skin painful kind - so yo ucouldn't -see- them but I could feel them.
Needless to say I have no doubt that it's a wonderful product, and who knows, maybe it coudl have done wonders for my skin over continued use of it, but I couldn't sustain that horendous price (and I was not going to try and sell it in order to keep using it 'for free')
After stopping using the line my face EXPLODED. It was AWFUL...the past 4 weeks-ish I have felt like a pimply 16 year old and have been ultra miserable because I already struggle with my outter image. Finally I sought help and my friend sells Mary Kay. I was skeptical as i've used MK products in the past with no success - but like Arbonne, formulas change, and I wasn't using -all- the products, etc.
Within TWO days I've noticed significant improvment. My face is already healing, and I think it might even start to clear! I'm excited that it might be a line that works for me.

my garden and yard
Where do you start?? Holy smokes, yard work is so fun but so hard at the same time!
Here's my to-do list:
1. Areate
2. Fertilize
3. Patch grass (figure out what grass I have first of course)
4. Garden: dig out all the topsoil and replace with new healthy soil (and thus fertilizer/sand/etc)....and of course plant garden!
5. Flower beds: dig out and transplant patio plants & trim back bushes/plants in side beds
6. Cut down or dig out big annoying evergreen tree - would like to replace with a big leafy tree :)
7. Figure out how to pull out big stumps.
8. Build treeless fort for boys: thus find a posthole digger as i've talked with a variety of builders and they say I have to build 4 feet down for a strong foundation (ugh)...I could expand this point but i'll leave it at that
9. Debating building "proper" steps down the side of my house this year
Most everything on this list will happen this year (maybe not #3, #6 & #9) - hoping.
My garden: I attended a Relief Society class on gardening. Last year I just planted my garden to see how it would turn out - didn't look at the soil too closely, etc, just planted. It was a very poor crop. After this class I learned alot of things. One thing that I learned was that you need something like 6-12" (depending on the plants) of good soil for the roots to grow into. I decided to dig down in my raised beds (that were here before we moved in), and I only got about 3-4" down before hitting clay in certain areas! So I've spent a few hours digging out these boxes...i'm almost done but I ran out of space to pile up the dirt. I need a truck to haul some away then I can finish.
Side note: i'm glad I started this now so that I will be done in time to plant end of May.
Anyways, some of the beds hit clay shallower while some hit deeper. Now I'm going to have to go and buy probably the equivalant to 20-30 bags of topsoil & fert/sand/etc....I'm going to go to the landscape places and see if they sell it in "bulk". I hate the idea of -buying- dirt. Doesn't that just sound so dumb?? Oh well...I'll have a killer garden by the time i'm done and I shouldn't have to do this every year!
I'm going to plant peas, beans, carrots, potatos, 2 tomato plants, maybe some onions and then gonna pot some strawberries for fun. Hoping to also add 1-3 perennials to my flower beds - the dream I have for my beds are far too much (financially) for one year, so the grass and garden are getting my attention in that regard.
If you had told my preteen/teen self that i'd one day like gardening - I'd have told you you were crazy :)
8. Build treeless fort for boys: thus find a posthole digger as i've talked with a variety of builders and they say I have to build 4 feet down for a strong foundation (ugh)...I could expand this point but i'll leave it at that
9. Debating building "proper" steps down the side of my house this year

dogssitting
I am dogsitting this week my friends little shitzu puppy - she's 'the dream dog' really. She doesn't bark, she eats on schedule, she bathrooms on schedule, she is friendly and loving and just hangs out.
It still doesn't make me want a dog.
Don't get me wrong, i'm a dog lover - I had medium sized dogs my whole childhood - my favourite being my dear golden retriever Rosie. :) The thing I am shocked that I don't like about Molly is that she follows me around. Everywhere. And because she had some stress induced diarrhea a few days into us watching her we allowed her to sleep in my room (as that is what she does at her house), which has been fine, but it was just one more space that I lost. I really like having my own space - I have a new bubble since having kids even - and dogs aren't exempt. Thank GOODNESS she doesn't lick - I HATE being licked by dogs -_-
I would dogsit again in a heartbeat - I have thoroughly loved 'having a dog', but full time I wouldn't want one. The added chore that a dog brings is not one that i'm willing to take on while having kids at home. I really like to have a clean and tidy house and tho she's hypoallergenic, the feedings, walks, baths, etc make up for the lack of extra sweeping.
Quick story: I went visiting teaching beginning of the week and while I was gone my door blew open (I hadn't locked it as I was only going ot be gone an hour) - anyways, if not latched properly when closing my front door it -can- blow open. When I got home I was SICK to my stomach because Molly had left. Here her owners are in Mexico - and the tags on the dogs collar are to contact them, not me! So I walk around the block in hopes of catching a glimpse of her (as I said, i'd only been gone 1 hour and I don't know when she actually got out). I called SPCA to report her missing, and then they gave me the bylaw officer number to call and report as well. Well wouldnt' you know a soon as I call the bylaw officer, she says "are you looking for Molly?" :D yes I am!! she had wandered into my neighbor number 72s (i'm 76) garage and she had accidently locked her in! WHEW. No fines, dog found, can now 'relax'. Needless to say tht has been on my mind all week and i've been especially concerend about a repeat door opening. -_- lol otherwise it's been fun! The kids THOROUGHLY love Molly, which has been fun too!

Free time to blog today
We had a great weekend this past Easter weekend. Michael had Friday off so we took off to the zoo for the morning and had a wonderful time - it was pretty busy but it was still enjoyable! (The zoo is a very big place so the crowds aren't as bad as you'd anticipate). Saturday we did chores and errands and lounging, followed by an easter dinner at my house with my side of the family. I love love love preparing and cooking dinners - if I didn't already have a full plate, I would totally look at 'party planning' lol.
In our house we don't really do the 'easter bunny' per say. Logan mentioned it's name a few times and we don't by any means shut down the idea as he's a kid and imaginations are key at this time! We do the egg hunt on the Saturday because I find that 'easter bunny' on the Sunday is irreverant and better suited for another day, and then we talk about Christ and the crucifiction and the ressurection, etc on Sunday. It really works well for our family! This year we added our new pet bunny Miss Thumper to our family. We are very excited and thrilled to have this pet - it's an additional chore to my daily list of chores, but so far she's well worth the extra work! Logan and Carter are truly in love (even 3 days later) - Logan tells everyone he has a bunny and tells me multiple times a day how much he loves her. It's really fun, and I look forward to being able to teach Logan some of the duties of caring for Thumper (feeding for example).
In other news, I signed up for the the Holistic Nutrition a distance learning course this past week. In about 3-5 weeks I should have my first round of text books and courses arrive. I have 2 years to complete the program, hoping it doesn't take quite that long tho! It's a 1 year course done full time, and i'm hoping to be able to get through it at a fairly steady pace. My evenings will be when I work on it the most - I have found by the time the boys go to bed I will generally sit down and watch tv for an hour or two (which I really hate about my present state - I think an hour a day is all a person should watch- and that's my kids rule too aside from occasional excpetions)...anyways, i'm excited to redirect my spare time into a learning endeavor! :)
Carter and Logan are generally well. Carter has a cold and I think it's hurting his ears a bit - they have been checked out twice now and they are just very pink, with no infection at this point but I think with his history, they are aggitating him. He's been up multiple times a night, unconsolable - very unusual for Carter so it's been a rough week). Logan has been going through 'the change' LOL...he's terribly moody and just changing into a little boy and trying to find his place so to speak. We have our challenges with him - he's a wooonderful boy and great in so many ways, but some of his behaviors I really struggle with his lack of listening and remembering how he is supposed to act. There isn't just one thing - it's all mood based and circumstantial, but we're doing our best!
Michael is still same ol' same ol'! Nothing new to report. He's being released and recalled to a new calling which i'm excited about for him - it won't happen tho for about 2 weeks with General Conf this next weekend so I wont' say any more than that at this point.

Speech
Carter is starting to -finally- talk to us! I had a realy wonderful mommy moment with him the other day. We were reading a picture book and for the first time -ever- he would repeat (or attempt to) after me. It was awesome. Mostly animal sounds and object sounds (like 'ding dong') but that's a step in the right direction. He has more and more words/sounds in his vocab this past week and I just love watching the progress.
We have him on the wait list for speech therapy and should we need it whenever we get a call (usually 4-6 month wait right now) we will take it, but I'm hoping he will advance from this point on that he won't require it.

Robert Munsch...I'm shocked
As a little kid our library teacher would read the occasional RM book, and I think in reading time at school or waiting rooms (doc/dentist) there would be the occasional RM book...but really, my parents didn't actually own any, and I never really paid much attention to them. I remember hearing a few stories and when I hear them now I remember the story...
Why blog about it? Well Logan recieved like 20 mini sized versions of various RM books as a baby shower gift (which he is now interested in reading so we read them alot), and we were actually gifted over the past year like 4-6 for Christmas/Birthday, etc.
Again, why blog about it? ....RM is a TERRIBLE writer! holy cow...I am shocked! Sentence structure, punctuation, everything! It's horrible! I think his -name- sells more books then his quality of writing...the stories are mostly truly stupid! I like a few, but the endings on almost all of them really just aggitate me lol...they end ubruptly and stupidly most of the time. Logan's favorite book is "give me back my daddy" ...and it's this cute little story about a father/daugher who go fishing and the "fish are smart" and trick them into grabbing their lines (the fish pull the people under), etc, etc. The daddy gets pulled under because he took the $50,000 bait and the daughter has to barter with the baby fish to give her back her daddy - she gets him back....so they go back to town and buy her her own snowmobile. ...That's how the story ends. It just bugs me! The story has such potential and he just ruins it.
It's torture reading them -_-

Results
Have been asked by a few people how my Rushfit went and such. Well, in one breath I loved it! I felt so in shape and my endurance was/has improved! In another breath, other than the inital 3 body inches lost in the first 3 weeks (of the 8 weeks), I didn't lose any more inches! By week 7 I was down about that and down about my body "hating me"...I don't understand how eating well, and 6 day a week fitness training at a fairly intense level wasn't changing my body. I'm sure there was change, it just wasn't in ways that I was looking for.
Anyways, so the last week of training I was feeling a little down so I overate and gained a few lbs...but I quickly leveled out and got a grip.
The past 7 days to help me redirect I did the soup cleanse. I happened to lose 7lbs in the process, which if i'm lucky I will keep 3 or 4 off (rarely does someone keep all the weight lost in these kind of cleanses), but now i'm back to the same start weight I was at when originally starting Rushfit! -_- lol -sigh- At least I feel good :)
Michael and I will be starting P90X on Monday - heard lots about it, and I want to keep toning/working in hopes that one day my body will actually change - i'm the forever optimist! Summer is just around the corner - and even closer, we are going to West Ed April 5/6th and we will be doing the waterpark. Who doesn't want to look rockin' in their bathing suit right? :)

Carter doesn't speak
In case you think i'm overly worried, I need to tell you that i'm not -extremely- concerned, but my personality is just an overanalyzing type, so whether its a problem or not, i'm very aware of things - it's just how my mind operates.
Okay, Carter doesn't say ANY words. Truly. No. Words. At. All. He makes sounds - he can do the mamama, dadada, bababa, etc but he doesn't associate mama and dada to us specifically by calling us those words. If we say 'where's mommy?' he can find me, and can do so for all people/animals he "knows". He's smart too, he's not behind in understanding. He just doesn't talk.
I have gone ahead and filled out a development form at our local Parent Link Center for kids age 17 months to 18 months. He's only 17.5 months, so he's certainly closer to the beginning of the survey. I will redo it in a months time - and I will have his vaccinations in two weeks here where a health nurse will 'analyze' him also. Anyways, when I filled out the form he passed everything with flying colors (motor skills, problem solving, etc) but failed miserably the communcation section. I am monitoring him and am not pushing him to talk - but am definetly making the effort to encourage him to say -anything-....so when he points and grunts at something, I just make an extra point of saying "oh, are you looking for the ball?...THIS ball? Do you want this ball? the yellow ball? Here you go, here is the ball" ...I don't sit down with him and repeat phrases like "say ball Carter, say ball" because I don't want to frusterate him...I am just trying to focus on looking directly at him when I speak so he can see my lips.
The reason for that is I am curious if his delay is linked at all to his hearing - he has had so many ear infections. He can hear, that I know - I have tested him by calling his name not too loudly when his back is turned to me, and he will turn and look to me....but there are (very few) times he doesn't which could just be him ignoring me - kids do that sometimes lol. Anyways, I am just being proactive and paying attention to his development just in case.
Anyways, LOVE my boy! He's such a great personality and brings joy to me and our family. I am just a protective mama bear and have an over analytical brain :)

Quotes
I have put our family on a pretty strict and tight budget in order to get out of debt within (hopefully) two years - three tops.
In the meantime, I am working towards saving for a couple of home reno projects. In order to save I need to have a price to save for. So, I drew up and took my deck plan into Home Depot this past week, and they quoted me for the supplies (roughly) $2300 to make the size of deck I want (not including a railing). This would require us building the deck on our own. We seem to know enough people with building experience and know-how that I feel confident we can getter-done. Goal: $3000 saved to build deck
Then, my other project is my extension of cabinets (top and bottom) in my kitchen to create more kitchen space (storage and counter). I used the 3D Ikea kitchen building program and chose cabinets, countertops, hardware, etc, and the quote for my 8ft of top/bottom length cabinets is roughly $2200. Goal: $2500 saved to reno kitchen.
The other "small" project is my kids bathroom - I want to put a tub surround in their bathroom and paint it. Goal: $500 max and done by the end of 2013
Logan's birthday present this spring: Treehouse. I have not gone and drew up a specific plan yet - just in brainstorming stage, but i'm hoping we can buy all the wood and supplies for $500. Not sure if that's a realistic plan yet, haven't gotten that far :)

discouraging day
As you know I have been doing a program with Michael called "Rushfit" (blogged previously about it). It has been fun and a GREAT workout! I have added strength and endurance and flexibility, which is wonderful and despite the tone of the blog to follow, I am grateful for.
I did a cleanse - the Wild Rose Cleanse a few weeks ago and it was close to the time that I started RushFit. By week 3 (we got our weeks mixed up and weighed/measured early) I was down 4lbs and 4" - VERY exciting right? Absolutely!
Within the first week of finishing the cleanse I gained all 4lbs +1 BACK. I hadn't changed anything! I am still wheat/flour/sugar free because I seem to have an intolerance, etc so I basically continued my regular eating and am still working out 6 days a week. So the past 3 days have been a really big hardship on me...when depressed (especially ABOUT food) I just want to eat everything in sight. I have mostly managed to stay within my 1600 MAX calorie range, but have had some terrible food choices in there - whihc in turn makes me feel emotionally worse! Vicious cycle right?
I am frusterated with my body and I am frusterated when it just doesn't make sense! I can't eliminate any more food because I am already on avg eating only 1400 cals per day...and I can't exercise MORE because an hour a day is already hard to squeeze in with my schedule and my family.
Michael has lost 15-20lbs and is looking great. I know I can't/shouldn't compare, but to watch him to the same program and same food plan and get results is terrible disheartening. He also has willpower. I'm not sure how he does it - well I do konw, he doesn't have my intense need and desire to eat food. I sometimes with people could just spend a day in my head and really understand how much I think about food, and how hungry I feel ALL the time, every day, day in and day out. You'd think I'd be an enormous whale if you really knew! Well, I was close LOL but the willpower I have is not enough I guess - that is just the sad part for me.
Anyways, I will not give up - I am not even trying to change my body type...I -know- that I will always carry my weight in my hips/buttock, and I know I will always be pear shaped....I just want to be toned up and firm, not giggly and be able to grab a handful of excess in those regions - I don't think that's too much to ask! I've been doing squats and lunges basically on a daily basis (it's in every workout, some more than others) and I just dont' feel any different. In fact, the other day before the cleanse was finished I tried on my skinny pants and I was actually able to do them up! I haven't done that since I used to wear them pre-Carter - that was SOOO exciting! But now I can't do them up again...in a week and a half - and for no -obvious to me- reason.
Okay, i'm done. VENTVENTVENT. SADSADSAD.
Return to my initial comment. I -am- however grateful for the increase in my physical fitness level. I hope that one day my body and mind will cooperate and help me reach my goal.

I hope that one day my body and mind will cooperate and help me reach my goal.

new plan
In true "Kyla" fashion, I have new ideas, new focus and new dreams! LOL
As of recent Michael and I have found ourselves in a bit of a financial crunch, slipping down a slippery slope. In order to correct this we have readdressed our situation and created a new strict budget and hope to be debt free in 2-3 years. It is going to be hard and it's going to be difficult and i'm going to struggle around those times of year (summer, birthdays and christmas) when I only have "x" number of dollars to work with, but i'm bound and determined. (We are doing the cash envelopes)
There is a course I want to take via homestudy through the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. It's an intensive 1100 hour diploma program, which I would like to take as pre-req knowledge for doing the Live Blood Analysis program. Yup, I am going down that road! However, the incentive is that if I reach debt free status, I then can start saving for the course fee (approx $3000) - by the time that comes I will be hopefully in a space where we are out of new baby phase and I can actually venture down the road of more education and learning :)
On another note, Bowen is going well - I have about 5 clients a week - would like to have 8-10 now as my new clientel goal. I think Bowen & Blood (for abbrev purposes) would go nicely together.
Random note: Michael received a call from WCB - they said they've been trying to send us a settlement cheque and it has been returned due to incorrect address - he was in a fender bender (not his fault) about 2 years ago...i'm hoping it's enough to cover the cost ofa new garborator! Ours keeps backing up into our dishwasher which in turn backs up in the garborator but I just don't have the funds to replace it...so i'm not hand washing dishes in my really inconveniently set up sink area. Should be in the mail this week! Wish us luck.
Oh! Where did the blood reading interest come from? Well, it has ALWAYS interested me (i've mentioned it in many posts before) but the cost seemed too great - and was too great - and I just didn't know where to start. As of a few months ago I have been hosting a blood clinic for a lady who reads blood, out of my home, and it's been so much fun and so fascinating! And SOOO much interest! I actually have a wait list believe it or not for people to get in. So, now tha ti'm using it as a debt free incentive I am just excited - excited to be debt free and exciting to learn more! I love natural health and I love helping people - I just am giddy :)

Rushfit
So this is the program Michael and I are doing right now: http://www.gsprushfit.com/
Basically it's MMA fitness training in a video workout format. It's an 8 week training session, where you workout 6 days and rest 1. The workouts are 1 hour long and some days you are required to an additional 30 minutes of cardio. The workouts are bootcamp intense and there's a handful of things I just am not physically capable of doing - nor do I feel the need to be able to LOL.
Today I just did day 8 and today was the first day since after day 1 that I wasn't in pain in all my muscles!! lol..
A big thing i've noticed is that I am even more than normal thinking about food and am constantly HUNGRY. As i've blogged before, food and I have a weird relationship, and I rarely feel 'full' - if I feel full, it only lasts 30-60 minutes before I could eat an entire meal again. I have learned and taught myself to just eat three meals a day with a small snack when necessary...but this fitness regime is really challenging my psyche (sy-kee) <--how do you sell that?). Anyways, i've got myself on a 1550 daily calorie intake - but now I am sitting around 1800 by days end cuz of the major food cravings.
I keep reminding myself i'm burning alot of calories and there's no way after 8 weeks of this intense training that there will be NO change in my body, even if I'm eating a little bit more. HOWEVER on the same coin i'm still trying to win this mind-body battle because when i'm not working out, I need to be able to eat only 1500 or i'll gain everything back too fast.
Sigh, stupid body LOL
Other than that little 'complaint' i am absolutely LOVING this program! It's the perfect intensity and it's FUN - totally up my alley as far as fitness activity goes.
On another note - I'm still boxing once a week at Spray Lakes just to make our membership worthwhile, and we signed Logan up for "Little Dragons" which is Kick-Jitzu for 4-6 yr olds. He is actually VERY excited about it - he can't wait to box like mommy, and daddy is excited because he loves UFC! Logan's class is two days a week for the next two months, for 50 minutes! I hope he loves it :)
