I am dogsitting this week my friends little shitzu puppy - she's 'the dream dog' really. She doesn't bark, she eats on schedule, she bathrooms on schedule, she is friendly and loving and just hangs out.
It still doesn't make me want a dog.
Don't get me wrong, i'm a dog lover - I had medium sized dogs my whole childhood - my favourite being my dear golden retriever Rosie. :) The thing I am shocked that I don't like about Molly is that she follows me around. Everywhere. And because she had some stress induced diarrhea a few days into us watching her we allowed her to sleep in my room (as that is what she does at her house), which has been fine, but it was just one more space that I lost. I really like having my own space - I have a new bubble since having kids even - and dogs aren't exempt. Thank GOODNESS she doesn't lick - I HATE being licked by dogs -_-
I would dogsit again in a heartbeat - I have thoroughly loved 'having a dog', but full time I wouldn't want one. The added chore that a dog brings is not one that i'm willing to take on while having kids at home. I really like to have a clean and tidy house and tho she's hypoallergenic, the feedings, walks, baths, etc make up for the lack of extra sweeping.
Quick story: I went visiting teaching beginning of the week and while I was gone my door blew open (I hadn't locked it as I was only going ot be gone an hour) - anyways, if not latched properly when closing my front door it -can- blow open. When I got home I was SICK to my stomach because Molly had left. Here her owners are in Mexico - and the tags on the dogs collar are to contact them, not me! So I walk around the block in hopes of catching a glimpse of her (as I said, i'd only been gone 1 hour and I don't know when she actually got out). I called SPCA to report her missing, and then they gave me the bylaw officer number to call and report as well. Well wouldnt' you know a soon as I call the bylaw officer, she says "are you looking for Molly?" :D yes I am!! she had wandered into my neighbor number 72s (i'm 76) garage and she had accidently locked her in! WHEW. No fines, dog found, can now 'relax'. Needless to say tht has been on my mind all week and i've been especially concerend about a repeat door opening. -_- lol otherwise it's been fun! The kids THOROUGHLY love Molly, which has been fun too!

Free time to blog today
We had a great weekend this past Easter weekend. Michael had Friday off so we took off to the zoo for the morning and had a wonderful time - it was pretty busy but it was still enjoyable! (The zoo is a very big place so the crowds aren't as bad as you'd anticipate). Saturday we did chores and errands and lounging, followed by an easter dinner at my house with my side of the family. I love love love preparing and cooking dinners - if I didn't already have a full plate, I would totally look at 'party planning' lol.
In our house we don't really do the 'easter bunny' per say. Logan mentioned it's name a few times and we don't by any means shut down the idea as he's a kid and imaginations are key at this time! We do the egg hunt on the Saturday because I find that 'easter bunny' on the Sunday is irreverant and better suited for another day, and then we talk about Christ and the crucifiction and the ressurection, etc on Sunday. It really works well for our family! This year we added our new pet bunny Miss Thumper to our family. We are very excited and thrilled to have this pet - it's an additional chore to my daily list of chores, but so far she's well worth the extra work! Logan and Carter are truly in love (even 3 days later) - Logan tells everyone he has a bunny and tells me multiple times a day how much he loves her. It's really fun, and I look forward to being able to teach Logan some of the duties of caring for Thumper (feeding for example).
In other news, I signed up for the the Holistic Nutrition a distance learning course this past week. In about 3-5 weeks I should have my first round of text books and courses arrive. I have 2 years to complete the program, hoping it doesn't take quite that long tho! It's a 1 year course done full time, and i'm hoping to be able to get through it at a fairly steady pace. My evenings will be when I work on it the most - I have found by the time the boys go to bed I will generally sit down and watch tv for an hour or two (which I really hate about my present state - I think an hour a day is all a person should watch- and that's my kids rule too aside from occasional excpetions)...anyways, i'm excited to redirect my spare time into a learning endeavor! :)
Carter and Logan are generally well. Carter has a cold and I think it's hurting his ears a bit - they have been checked out twice now and they are just very pink, with no infection at this point but I think with his history, they are aggitating him. He's been up multiple times a night, unconsolable - very unusual for Carter so it's been a rough week). Logan has been going through 'the change' LOL...he's terribly moody and just changing into a little boy and trying to find his place so to speak. We have our challenges with him - he's a wooonderful boy and great in so many ways, but some of his behaviors I really struggle with his lack of listening and remembering how he is supposed to act. There isn't just one thing - it's all mood based and circumstantial, but we're doing our best!
Michael is still same ol' same ol'! Nothing new to report. He's being released and recalled to a new calling which i'm excited about for him - it won't happen tho for about 2 weeks with General Conf this next weekend so I wont' say any more than that at this point.

Speech
Carter is starting to -finally- talk to us! I had a realy wonderful mommy moment with him the other day. We were reading a picture book and for the first time -ever- he would repeat (or attempt to) after me. It was awesome. Mostly animal sounds and object sounds (like 'ding dong') but that's a step in the right direction. He has more and more words/sounds in his vocab this past week and I just love watching the progress.
We have him on the wait list for speech therapy and should we need it whenever we get a call (usually 4-6 month wait right now) we will take it, but I'm hoping he will advance from this point on that he won't require it.

Robert Munsch...I'm shocked
As a little kid our library teacher would read the occasional RM book, and I think in reading time at school or waiting rooms (doc/dentist) there would be the occasional RM book...but really, my parents didn't actually own any, and I never really paid much attention to them. I remember hearing a few stories and when I hear them now I remember the story...
Why blog about it? Well Logan recieved like 20 mini sized versions of various RM books as a baby shower gift (which he is now interested in reading so we read them alot), and we were actually gifted over the past year like 4-6 for Christmas/Birthday, etc.
Again, why blog about it? ....RM is a TERRIBLE writer! holy cow...I am shocked! Sentence structure, punctuation, everything! It's horrible! I think his -name- sells more books then his quality of writing...the stories are mostly truly stupid! I like a few, but the endings on almost all of them really just aggitate me lol...they end ubruptly and stupidly most of the time. Logan's favorite book is "give me back my daddy" ...and it's this cute little story about a father/daugher who go fishing and the "fish are smart" and trick them into grabbing their lines (the fish pull the people under), etc, etc. The daddy gets pulled under because he took the $50,000 bait and the daughter has to barter with the baby fish to give her back her daddy - she gets him back....so they go back to town and buy her her own snowmobile. ...That's how the story ends. It just bugs me! The story has such potential and he just ruins it.

Results
Have been asked by a few people how my Rushfit went and such. Well, in one breath I loved it! I felt so in shape and my endurance was/has improved! In another breath, other than the inital 3 body inches lost in the first 3 weeks (of the 8 weeks), I didn't lose any more inches! By week 7 I was down about that and down about my body "hating me"...I don't understand how eating well, and 6 day a week fitness training at a fairly intense level wasn't changing my body. I'm sure there was change, it just wasn't in ways that I was looking for.
Anyways, so the last week of training I was feeling a little down so I overate and gained a few lbs...but I quickly leveled out and got a grip.
The past 7 days to help me redirect I did the soup cleanse. I happened to lose 7lbs in the process, which if i'm lucky I will keep 3 or 4 off (rarely does someone keep all the weight lost in these kind of cleanses), but now i'm back to the same start weight I was at when originally starting Rushfit! -_- lol -sigh- At least I feel good :)
Michael and I will be starting P90X on Monday - heard lots about it, and I want to keep toning/working in hopes that one day my body will actually change - i'm the forever optimist! Summer is just around the corner - and even closer, we are going to West Ed April 5/6th and we will be doing the waterpark. Who doesn't want to look rockin' in their bathing suit right? :)

Carter doesn't speak
In case you think i'm overly worried, I need to tell you that i'm not -extremely- concerned, but my personality is just an overanalyzing type, so whether its a problem or not, i'm very aware of things - it's just how my mind operates.
Okay, Carter doesn't say ANY words. Truly. No. Words. At. All. He makes sounds - he can do the mamama, dadada, bababa, etc but he doesn't associate mama and dada to us specifically by calling us those words. If we say 'where's mommy?' he can find me, and can do so for all people/animals he "knows". He's smart too, he's not behind in understanding. He just doesn't talk.
I have gone ahead and filled out a development form at our local Parent Link Center for kids age 17 months to 18 months. He's only 17.5 months, so he's certainly closer to the beginning of the survey. I will redo it in a months time - and I will have his vaccinations in two weeks here where a health nurse will 'analyze' him also. Anyways, when I filled out the form he passed everything with flying colors (motor skills, problem solving, etc) but failed miserably the communcation section. I am monitoring him and am not pushing him to talk - but am definetly making the effort to encourage him to say -anything-....so when he points and grunts at something, I just make an extra point of saying "oh, are you looking for the ball?...THIS ball? Do you want this ball? the yellow ball? Here you go, here is the ball" ...I don't sit down with him and repeat phrases like "say ball Carter, say ball" because I don't want to frusterate him...I am just trying to focus on looking directly at him when I speak so he can see my lips.
The reason for that is I am curious if his delay is linked at all to his hearing - he has had so many ear infections. He can hear, that I know - I have tested him by calling his name not too loudly when his back is turned to me, and he will turn and look to me....but there are (very few) times he doesn't which could just be him ignoring me - kids do that sometimes lol. Anyways, I am just being proactive and paying attention to his development just in case.
Anyways, LOVE my boy! He's such a great personality and brings joy to me and our family. I am just a protective mama bear and have an over analytical brain :)

In the meantime, I am working towards saving for a couple of home reno projects. In order to save I need to have a price to save for. So, I drew up and took my deck plan into Home Depot this past week, and they quoted me for the supplies (roughly) $2300 to make the size of deck I want (not including a railing). This would require us building the deck on our own. We seem to know enough people with building experience and know-how that I feel confident we can getter-done. Goal: $3000 saved to build deck
Then, my other project is my extension of cabinets (top and bottom) in my kitchen to create more kitchen space (storage and counter). I used the 3D Ikea kitchen building program and chose cabinets, countertops, hardware, etc, and the quote for my 8ft of top/bottom length cabinets is roughly $2200. Goal: $2500 saved to reno kitchen.
The other "small" project is my kids bathroom - I want to put a tub surround in their bathroom and paint it. Goal: $500 max and done by the end of 2013
